How Will You Pay for College?

Tuition and fees for 2009–2010 are $32,400, based on a typical course load of 12–16 credits each semester. Room and board is $12,300. See our detailed costs chart for tuition, fees, room and board and other expenses such as books and transportation.

Don't let the price tag scare you. Less expensive schools, such as public institutions, may offer less financial aid. That means you could end up paying more in the long run than you would at Quinnipiac, whose published costs may be higher.

The majority of our students—around 73 percent—receive some kind of financial aid from Quinnipiac. There are several types:

  • Scholarships and grants. We award approximately 500 merit-based scholarships and administer need-based grants in varying amounts. You may qualify for outside scholarships, too. Check reputable sources, including websites and agencies that do not charge a fee. Here are several scholarship sites Quinnipiac recommends.
  • Student loans. There are two types of federal student loans, or Stafford loans: subsidized and unsubsidized. Subsidized Stafford loans are awarded based on financial need. The government pays (subsidizes) the interest that accrues on the loan while you are enrolled in school (at least half-time) and for six months after you graduate. Interest that accrues on an unsubsidized Stafford loan is not paid by the government and is the responsibility of the borrower.
  • Parent loans. Federal PLUS loans may be available for your family to help fund your education. Quinnipiac also offers payment plans that allow families to pay for tuition, fees and room and board in convenient installments.
  • Federal work-study. Qualified freshmen can earn up to $2,000 per year in jobs on campus or through community service programs. Students who don’t qualify for a federal work-study award can apply for remaining campus employment positions.
